Can you bottle kegged beer?
by pmm186 8 Months ago
Recently I started kegging my beer and everything turned out great. I force carbonated the beer at 40 psi for about a week and that really made my stout taste great. However, I would love to bottle some of my stout so that I can age it and keep it for a later date. Can I bottle from my kegged beer? What do I need to know to be effective?

Thanks.

If you're carbing the beer to 40 psi for a week you will absolutely have overcarbed beer, unless it's stiiting at about room temp. My keg fridge is at 42 degrees and I keep about 11 psi on the beer. I can't believe that with 40 on it you got anything but foam. How do you dispense?

I do let the beer set in my basement during that week. My basement about 60 degrees F, and then when it was time to hook the beer up to my kegerator, I first bleed off the pressure to about 10 psi. The above picture is the beer straight from the tap.

Have you ever bottled from a keg? Do you recommend giving it a shot?

Many people use a counter-pressure filler was for bottling off a keg. My understanding is that it fills the bottle with CO2 at the keg pressure, so that when you fill the bottle it doesn't foam up, since it's moving from a pressurized environment to a pressurized environment.

For example

Good luck bottling your kegged brews.

Primary:
Bottled: Cherry Sparkles, PostNatal IPA
Drinking: Dragon King High Gravity Pale Ale, Marynka Baltic Porter
Saving: Big Slick Imperial IPA, Mean Giant Double Stout
