From the Flying Dog website... "Old Scratch Amber Lager is a malty, mellow beer that is fermented at medium temperatures to develop both ale and lager characteristics."

This multi-award winning beer is another example of Flying Dog's legacy for stretching the boundaries of their brews.  Ryan wrote a great write-up about the brewery under their Classic Pale Ale.  Sporting the usual outside-the-normal label, this amber lager combines the flavors of both a lager and ale making it unique to say the least.

This is a great beer you could drink all night. The appearance is of a beautiful red ale with a thin white head. It's crystal clear showing the gentle carbonation of bubbles rising to the surface. The aroma is typical of a lager providing a small amount of hoppiness with each smell. This beer is very smooth from beginning to end leaving a lingering flavor on the back of the tongue. Starting hoppy and finishing slightly bitter, Old Scratch is very well balanced throughout the tasting experience. There is almost a drying effect in your mouth that makes you crave another sip. We also found a hint of something else, possibly grape.
